Dr. John Forsyth, a highly regarded Missouri emergency room doctor, was found dead in an Arkansas lake 11 months after he went missing. His death has been ruled a suicide, with authorities determining that he died from a gunshot wound to the head. Forsyth, who was engaged and a father of eight, was last seen near the hospital where he worked in Cassville, Missouri. His body was found in Beaver Lake in Arkansas, about 20 miles south of the hospital.

Detectives from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas stated that they have not found any evidence to dispute the medical examiner’s findings. Surveillance videos showed Forsyth riding a bicycle to Beaver Lake, and the bicycle was found near where his body was discovered. The circumstances surrounding Forsyth’s death, coupled with the lack of details made public, garnered national attention. Online publications covering cryptocurrency took note of his death, as Forsyth had made cryptic remarks about being in danger before his death.

Forsyth’s brother, Richard, revealed that John Forsyth had founded Onfo LLC, a “network mining” venture in 2018, with the aim of giving people, including those in developing nations, an opportunity to invest in digital currency. The case gained attention as a Facebook discussion group grew and speculation mounted about the motivations behind Forsyth’s death. Just before his disappearance, a judge had finalized Forsyth’s second divorce, requiring him to make significant monthly payments to his ex-wife and children. However, family members and his ex-wife’s attorney stated that the split was amicable.

The sheriff’s department reported that John Forsyth was last seen walking towards his RV in the parking lot of Mercy Hospital in Cassville, although it was later revealed that he disappeared from a public swimming pool parking lot in Cassville, a mile from the hospital. His car was found there with cellphones, a laptop, and important documents inside. The circumstances surrounding Forsyth’s death and the events leading up to it have raised questions and sparked speculation online. Richard Forsyth has not yet commented on the sheriff’s announcement regarding the cause of his brother’s death.

In light of this tragedy, it is essential to acknowledge the importance of mental health resources and support for those in emotional distress or crisis. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available for individuals in need of assistance, and they can be reached by calling or texting 988. Additionally, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) HelpLine offers resources and support for mental health care, and they can be contacted Monday through Friday via phone or email. The details surrounding Dr. John Forsyth’s death serve as a reminder of the significance of mental health awareness and the need for accessible support for those in need.
