The Easter long weekend in British Columbia’s South Coast is one of the busiest times of the year for travel, with thousands of people using various modes of transportation to get around. Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is expecting more than 292,000 passengers over the weekend, with popular destinations including Toronto, Calgary, Los Angeles, and Hong Kong. Airport officials are advising travellers to arrive early and monitor flight statuses online, with a virtual check-in service available as well. BC Ferries has scheduled an extra 192 sailings to accommodate the increased travel demand, expecting over 434,000 passengers for the weekend.

BC Ferries spokesperson Jeff Groot recommends making a reservation if possible, as space fills up quickly during busy times like Easter weekend. For those without a reservation, alternative transportation options such as walking on, public transit, carpooling, or being dropped off are suggested. TransLink is also warning passengers of potential delays on the SkyTrain during the long weekend, with bus, SkyTrain, and SeaBus services running on a Sunday/holiday schedule for Good Friday. Riders will only have to pay for a single zone to travel across Metro Vancouver during the holiday fare period.

On Easter Monday, bus and SeaBus services will operate on a standard weekday schedule, while the West Coast Express will run at a reduced frequency. TransLink is advising riders to give themselves an extra 20 minutes for their trips. Weather forecasts for the long weekend predict clear skies and sunshine on Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures reaching 15 C and 14 C respectively. This information is provided by Global News, a division of Corus Entertainment Inc.
