Andalusia, Catalonia, and Valencia remain under alert for another day due to the dana

The worst phase of the dana storm has passed, claiming the lives of over 200 people. However, the adverse situation continues over the weekend and into Monday, as warned by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). On Saturday, instability in the Mediterranean will persist, with heavy and persistent showers expected in southern Catalonia, as well as in the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands. The weather forecast indicates that there may also be weaker showers in the southern third of the Peninsula.

Aemet has lifted the weather warning that was in place for the Balearic Islands since Friday, but has reactivated it in Andalusia. Catalonia (Tarragona, Girona, and Barcelona) and the Valencian Community (Castellón) are under an orange weather alert, the second highest level on a scale of three. Andalusia (Granada) has a yellow alert. Some areas may experience rainfall at a rate of 40 liters per square meter per hour, with accumulations reaching up to 100 in 12 hours. The situation is expected to gradually stabilize starting from Sunday, as the worst of the storm was initially forecasted until Thursday.

On Sunday, attention should still be paid to the Mediterranean region, as instability will continue from Catalonia to the Strait of Gibraltar and the Balearic Islands. Heavy or persistent storms may occur in the southern areas of Tarragona, northern Castellón, and parts of Teruel, similar to the conditions on Friday. The Valencian Community and Catalonia remain under a yellow weather alert, while Andalusia has a yellow alert for rough seas. Showers may still be strong on Monday, especially in southern Catalonia, the Valencian Community, and southern Aragón.

By Tuesday and the following days, a more stable weather situation is expected across the country. However, the possibility of showers in the Mediterranean region cannot be ruled out at this time. Temperatures will remain relatively stable, slightly warmer than usual for this time of year. Despite the passing of the worst phase of the dana storm, the adverse weather conditions are expected to continue into the beginning of the week before gradually improving.
