A collapse occurred in a plateau in the village of Taşlıçay, located in the district of Karlıova. After receiving a notification, teams from Bingöl University Energy, Environment, and Natural Disaster Research Center conducted investigations in the area. Assistant Prof. Dr. Fatma Esen, who was part of the team, stated that they determined the site to be an old lake bed and said, “We came for a field study with our colleagues. Based on the observations we made in the field, we are of the opinion that the site is an old lake bed. Of course, this is not a statement that can be made for the near future; we think it may have been a lake with a history of thousands of years. The silty material accumulated in the field has collapsed over time due to the effect of underground water.”
Assistant Prof. Dr. Esen, who stated that the collapse does not pose a danger, said, “This material has collapsed due to the effect of underground water, appearing as a local collapse. It looks like a sinkhole, but it is not. We do not think it poses a dangerous situation. We believe it is just a collapse that occurred in this area. It does not pose a danger to our citizens. It is necessary to carry out rehabilitation work, to close it, or to connect it to the main line by opening drainage. In this way, we believe it will not pose a danger to our citizens.”
