The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show makes a return after a five-year hiatus, with the annual runway show facing cancellation in 2019 due to scandals and criticisms of lack of diversity and inclusivity from critics. Former chief marketing officer Edward Razek received backlash for dismissing the idea of integrating inclusivity into the fashion show, eventually resigning amid accusations of perpetuating a culture of misogyny, bullying, and harassment at the lingerie brand’s parent company L Brands.
Victoria’s Secret announced in May that the runway show would return and aim to reflect the brand’s current values, including glamour, runway, wings, musical entertainment, and more. The show is set to take place on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the flagship store in NYC, with various ways to watch including Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Live, and the brand’s social media platforms. A pink carpet pre-show hosted by Tefi Pessoa and Olivia Culpo will start before the main event, and a watch party will be held for fans in the Penn District.
Several famous Victoria’s Secret “angels” are making a return to the runway for the 2024 show, including Adriana Lima, Tyra Banks, Gigi Hadid, and others. Adriana Lima, with 18 total appearances in VS fashion shows, confirmed her return through an Instagram video, creating excitement among fans. Heidi Klum, however, is not expected to walk at the event this year. Cher, a renowned artist in the fashion world, is set to headline the event with K-pop star Lisa and singer Tyla also scheduled to perform.
The show is expected to bring back the iconic wings, glamorous outfits, and charismatic models that have been central to its appeal throughout the years. The celebration of diversity and a broader range of beauty is highlighted as a crucial aspect of this year’s event, with artists like Tyla expressing their excitement and appreciation for the opportunity to perform on such a nostalgic and legendary stage. The return of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show marks a new era for the brand, as it aims to address past criticisms and engage with audiences in a more inclusive and diverse manner.
