After being tagged out, Cabellero ran through the base and ended up bumping into Blue Jays’ pitcher Génesis Cabrera. This led to a confrontation where Cabrera shoved Caballero, prompting both teams to clear the benches.
This is not the first incident of benches clearing this season, as in the season opener for the New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers, Rhys Hoskins slid into second base, resulting in the benches clearing as well. In the second game of the series between the Mets and Brewers, more fireworks ensued. In the top of the seventh inning, with the Brewers up 6-2, Mets pitcher Yohan Ramírez threw a pitch behind Hoskins and was immediately ejected from the game. Despite the tensions, Hoskins had a strong performance, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four runs batted in on Saturday. He responded to the incident by stating, “Big leaguers don’t miss by eight feet,” emphasizing the long-standing tradition of the game being able to police itself.
