The woman who accused former MLB pitcher Trevor Bauer of sexual assault, Darcy Adanna Esemonu, was indicted for fraud against Bauer and another man in Arizona. She is facing charges of fraudulent schemes and artifices, as well as theft by extortion. Bauer released a video message denying the allegations against him, claiming the encounter was consensual, and slamming Esemonu for lying.
Esemonu could potentially face over 16 years in prison if convicted on both charges. The fraudulent schemes and artifices charge involves obtaining a benefit under false pretenses. It was reported that Esemonu had previously sued Bauer in 2023, alleging that he had held a knife to her throat and choked her until she passed out. Bauer denied these claims, stating that the encounter was consensual and that Esemonu was demanding $1.6 million related to a pregnancy, which he denied was true.
Despite never being charged in any case, Bauer filed a countersuit against Esemonu, claiming she demanded $1.6 million related to the alleged pregnancy. He ended up paying $8,761 towards the pregnancy and abortion expenses, but the woman later said she had a miscarriage. The legal battle continued, with Esemonu allegedly making multiple seven-figure demands and only hiring a lawyer after Bauer’s first accuser, Lindsey Hill, came forward with her allegations. Bauer claimed that Esemonu fabricated a sexual assault claim after he refused to pay her the $3.6 million she was demanding.
Bauer emphasized that several law firms had dropped Esemonu as a client during the legal battle and accused her of having a pattern of lying to men to get money. He claimed that Esemonu’s actions included extortion and fabricating sexual assault claims when met with resistance. Bauer also referenced his previous legal battle with Lindsey Hill, the first woman to publicly accuse him of sexual assault. Despite settling their lawsuits without exchanging money, Bauer expressed frustration at the continued accusations against him.
Following Bauer’s video message denying the allegations, Lindsey Hill responded on social media, challenging Bauer and his agent to press charges against her. Bauer was released by the Los Angeles Dodgers in January 2023 following a suspension tied to the allegations. He has since played in Japan and Mexico with hopes of returning to Major League Baseball. The legal battle between Bauer and Esemonu continues, with authorities providing limited information beyond the indictment. Esemonu’s legal representation did not respond to requests for comment.
