The earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6 that occurred with the epicenters in Pazarcık and Elbistan caused significant damage in the city center of Malatya. Approximately 20,000 businesses were destroyed and some suffered severe damage, leading Emlak Konut to initiate construction work for new businesses and residences in the city center.

Construction is underway in the marketplace where piles have been driven into the ground and water is coming out, making it possible for businesses and residences to be built in the area. The constructions have started to rise in the marketplace.

The area will not have high-rise buildings, with two, three, and four-story blocks being built instead. The marketplace project will consist of a total of 5,074 independent units, the majority of which will be businesses and offices. Additionally, 560 residences will be built, taking into account the satisfaction of the residents who previously lived in the area.

The Malatya Bazaar Project, managed by Emlak Konut, is progressing on a 156-acre site with a total construction area of 416,000 square meters, consisting of 99 blocks. Cengiz Başer, the Director of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, stated that the construction of the buildings is being carried out by nearly 150 pieces of machinery and around 600 workers.

Special attention has been given to preserving the historical texture of the area in the projects, and sensitive projects have been created. The restoration of mosques such as Yeni Cami, Çınarlı Camisi, and Kiğılı Cami is planned to be carried out on-site. The construction of Söğütlü Cami will continue in the same way. The goal is to create a beautiful architectural project for the marketplace.

Expanding the marketplace project, Başer highlighted that construction has also started in Saray Mahallesi. The first phase in this area includes the construction of 200,000 square meters of building area, with plans to develop 594 residences, 493 commercial properties, and 256 offices. The project in Saray Mahallesi also promises to be unique and beautiful with an estimated duration of 400 days.

In addition to the marketplace project, construction work is ongoing in other reserved areas in Malatya. Projects have already started in Çavuşoğlu, Saray, Akkent, and Yakınca in four phases, as well as in Zaviye in ten phases. Located in Yeşilevler and Tandoğan Mahallesi, these projects have been approved and are in the bidding process. A total of 44 reserved areas, in collaboration with three districts including Doğanşehir, Akçadağ, and Darende, are undergoing construction work in Malatya.
