A 17-year-old girl was fatally stabbed outside of a Queens subway station, becoming the latest teenager to be a victim of a crime in New York City. The incident occurred on Queens Boulevard near the 46th Street station in Sunnyside shortly before 9:30 p.m. The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Police have taken a person of interest into custody, although no charges have been filed yet. A knife was found at the scene, along with a backpack and shoulder bag that appeared to have been torn open, surrounded by blood-soaked paper towels.
Following this incident, two 15-year-old boys were stabbed outside of a McDonald’s in the Bronx. Fortunately, both of them are expected to recover from their injuries. Prior to these incidents, a 16-year-old basketball player named Mahki Brown was shot and killed by a bike-riding gunman in Soho. This took place near the Dominick Hotel on Spring Street, where Brown was struck in the head and leg by bullets. Hours after Brown’s shooting, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the back outside of NYCHA’s Amsterdam Houses on the Upper West Side, although he is in stable condition and the assailant is still at large.
Additionally, on the same day the 17-year-old girl was killed, three 15-year-old boys were stabbed in separate incidents. One of the boys was slashed in the back of the head during an altercation on an MTA bus in the Bronx, while the other two were injured in Brooklyn. There has been a recent uptick in violence targeting teenagers in New York City over a two-day period, resulting in tragic outcomes for many young individuals. The streets have become increasingly unsafe, with a rise in violent crimes causing concern among residents and law enforcement.
