New Feature on iPhone 16 Pro Sparks Discussion of iPad and MacBook Pro Problems

This week in Apple news, the focus has been on the upcoming iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro. Third-party case manufacturers have revealed changes to the camera design to accommodate the Apple Vision Pro, including a vertical arrangement for stereoscopic video recording. Additionally, new button designs, such as the Capture Button and the Action Button, may use capacitive technology instead of physical buttons.

After months of anticipation, Apple has finally announced a launch event for the next iPad, scheduled for Tuesday, May 7th. The event is expected to unveil the next iteration of the iPad, as hinted at by an Apple invite featuring splashes of colored paint and an Apple Pencil. The Apple Pencil compatibility suggests that a new iPad model will be revealed at the event.

Reports have indicated that sales of Apple’s niche mixed reality headset, the Apple Vision Pro, will fall short of expectations, with estimates now around 400,000 units sold instead of the previously discussed 700,000-750,000. Production and supply constraints are cited as the main factors limiting sales volume, rather than lower than expected demand.

Issues have arisen with Apple’s latest release of macOS Ventura, particularly affecting older Intel-based MacBook models. Users have reported problems with connectivity, Time Machine backups, UI lag, TouchID, and app performance. There is currently no timeline for a fix for these issues, leaving some users frustrated.

Apple has made headlines this week by open-sourcing eight large language models through the Hugging Face AI community. These models are designed to run locally on consumer devices, showcasing Apple’s approach to AI. In addition, Apple has revealed plans to design its own artificial intelligence server processor in the future, emphasizing their commitment to AI development.

Finally, reports suggest that the long-awaited Calculator app will be included in the upcoming iPadOS 18 release. The absence of a native Calculator app on the iPad has been a point of contention for users, who have had to rely on third-party options from the App Store. The addition of this basic tool is sure to be a welcome update for iPad users. Stay tuned for more Apple news and updates in the future.
