Vietnamese-based company Boviet Solar is set to build its first North American solar panel manufacturing plant in eastern North Carolina, creating over 900 jobs. The company announced its plans to invest nearly $300 million in a 1 million square-foot advanced manufacturing facility in Greenville. Boviet, founded in 2013, already produces solar panels and photovoltaic cells that are used in the U.S. by commercial, industrial, and residential customers. The plant in Greenville will help expand the company’s capacity globally for high-end solar panels and photovoltaic modules.
The 908 jobs are expected to be in place by 2028 and will pay an average of $52,879 annually, slightly above the Pitt County average. Boviet CEO Jimmy Xie expressed pride in bringing manufacturing excellence to North Carolina’s most important solar market, creating jobs, and positively impacting the state’s economy. The company considered alternative sites for the plant in Phoenix and Atlanta, ultimately choosing Greenville as the location for their new manufacturing facility. Incentives of up to $8.3 million over 12 years were approved by a state panel, with a total of $34.6 million in combined state and local incentives being offered to Boviet for the project.
