Potential Trump VP South Dakota Governor details the heartbreaking story of her dog’s death in new book

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is facing backlash for her upcoming book, “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward,” in which she writes about killing an unruly dog and a smelly goat. In the book, she recounts the story of a wirehaired pointer named Cricket, who she was training for pheasant hunting but ultimately had to put down after it killed some chickens and bit her. Noem also writes about killing a male goat that she deemed “nasty and mean.”

The excerpts from Noem’s book drew immediate criticism on social media, with many expressing outrage at her actions towards the animals. President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign and the conservative group, the Lincoln Project, also highlighted the story on social media, condemning Noem’s actions. Despite the backlash, Noem defended herself on social media, stating that tough decisions like this are common on a farm and urging readers to preorder her book for more politically incorrect stories.

Republican strategist Alice Stewart expressed concern that Noem’s story may be viewed unfavorably by some voters, as mistreating animals is never a good look. Noem’s previous actions, such as standing behind the state’s controversial anti-meth campaign with the slogan “Meth. We’re on it.” and posting a video praising cosmetic dentists, have also garnered national attention. The gift ban in South Dakota prohibits lobbyists from giving gifts over $100 to public officials and their immediate family, but it remains unclear if the ban applies to individuals who are not registered lobbyists.

Despite the controversy surrounding her book, Noem’s potential as a running mate for presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has brought her under the spotlight once again. The story of Cricket and the smelly goat in her book has sparked a debate on social media about animal cruelty and the ethical treatment of pets. Noem’s defense of her actions as necessary on a farm and her invitation for readers to explore more politically incorrect stories in her book have further fueled the discussion around her leadership and decision-making.

The conflicting reactions to Noem’s story reflect the broader debate on how animals should be treated and the ethical considerations involved in farming practices. While some may view her actions as practical and necessary, others criticize her for the perceived cruelty towards the animals. Noem’s defense of her actions and her attempt to present herself as a tough and unapologetic leader may resonate with some voters, but ultimately, the controversy surrounding her book may overshadow her political ambitions and impact her reputation as a potential vice-presidential candidate for Trump.
