Investigator testifies that Trump is an unindicted co-conspirator in 2020 Michigan fake electors probe

Former President Donald Trump is facing investigation in Michigan as an unindicted co-conspirator in the state attorney general’s probe into attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Other individuals named as unindicted co-conspirators include Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows, and Jenna Ellis. The investigation also involves fake Republican electors from Michigan who have been charged by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. One of the individuals charged has agreed to cooperate with prosecutors, while the remaining 15 defendants have pleaded not guilty.

Special agent Howard Shock, one of the lead investigators in Nessel’s probe, confirmed in court that Trump, Meadows, Giuliani, and Ellis are considered co-conspirators in the case. Although they are not facing charges in Michigan, they have been indicted in Georgia’s election interference case. Ellis pleaded guilty in that case, but the others deny any wrongdoing. Representatives for Giuliani expressed concerns about the justice system being weaponized in this case, while Nessel’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The investigation has expanded to include broader attempts by the Trump-backed campaign to overturn election results in Michigan and other states. Pro-Trump lawyer Kenneth Chesebro, who played a key role in the fake electors scheme, was interviewed by investigators in December. The Trump campaign allegedly had a seven-state plan to subvert the Electoral College process and prosecutors in multiple states have taken action against fake electors.

In Arizona, a grand jury has indicted Trump’s allies, including individuals connected to his campaign and fake electors, for efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. Trump is not among those charged in Arizona but is referred to as “Unindicted Coconspirator 1” in the indictment. State prosecutors in Michigan, Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada have brought charges against some fake electors, while investigations are ongoing in other states. Prosecutors in New Mexico and Pennsylvania have decided not to pursue charges in similar cases.

The situation continues to develop as further details emerge. Investigations into election interference and attempts to overturn the 2020 election results remain ongoing in multiple states. Despite not facing charges at the moment, Trump and his associates are under scrutiny in various jurisdictions. The legal implications of these cases, as well as the impact on the justice system and election integrity, continue to be subjects of debate and concern. Additional updates are expected as investigations progress.
