Paris Charles de Gaulle airport has recently unveiled a new security baggage system and a dedicated baggage handling area in preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The new equipment includes a revamped scanner system that allows for a more detailed scan of passengers’ baggage, eliminating the need for travelers to remove items such as electronic devices, aerosols, or liquids from their bags. This new system aims to enhance security measures and ensure that any suspicious items can be identified before the luggage leaves the airport.

According to Edward Arkwright, CEO of Aéroports de Paris Group, the organization that manages Paris’ airports, the priority is to ensure the safety of passengers and prevent any questionable items from leaving with them. The airport expects to process over 114,000 baggage pieces from delegations and media during the Olympics, as well as an estimated 47,000 pieces of sports equipment. The unveiling of this new security system and baggage handling area comes as the airport prepares to serve as the main gateway for the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics.

In addition to the new security system, Charles de Gaulle Airport has introduced a “baggage factory,” a dedicated space spanning 10,000 square meters to handle the equipment and luggage of athletic delegations departing after the closing ceremony. Sébastien Malaussene, the airport’s project manager, highlighted the challenge of dealing with oversized luggage, as athletes typically travel with multiple bags filled with sports equipment, many of which are larger than standard luggage. This dedicated space aims to streamline the processing of sports equipment and ensure a smooth departure for the athletes.

With the influx of delegations, media, and sports equipment expected during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, the enhanced security measures and dedicated baggage handling area at Charles de Gaulle Airport are crucial to maintaining efficiency and safety. The airport is gearing up to handle the unique requirements of athletes and their oversized sports equipment, ensuring that the departure process is seamless and hassle-free for participants. The unveiling of these new facilities marks a significant step in the airport’s preparations to serve as a key transportation hub for the upcoming Olympic Games.

As the first point of entry for many athletes and delegations arriving for the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics, Charles de Gaulle Airport is taking proactive measures to enhance security and streamline baggage handling processes. The upgraded scanner system and dedicated baggage handling area reflect the airport’s commitment to providing a safe and efficient experience for passengers during this high-profile event. With the Olympics set to bring a significant increase in traffic and baggage volume, these new facilities will play a vital role in ensuring a smooth operation and successful handling of luggage for all participants and visitors.
