Ilan Sinelnikov, the President and Founder of Students Supporting Israel (SSI), is cautioning against the resurgence of antisemitism on college campuses, drawing comparisons to the acts of harassment and intimidation faced by Jewish people in Europe during the 1930s. He highlighted recent anti-Israel protests at Columbia University as evidence of history repeating itself. Sinelnikov stated that Jewish students no longer feel safe on campuses like Columbia, where they are intimidated and harassed, with some students even considering leaving for their own safety. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging the gradual progression of events that led to the Holocaust, warning that similar hatred and indoctrination are present in higher education institutions today.

Sinelnikov expressed concern about the dehumanization of Jewish people on college campuses, noting chants calling for the exclusion of Zionists. He stressed the need to recognize the parallels between the Holocaust and modern-day antisemitism, urging people not to overlook the warning signs. Sinelnikov emphasized that allowing Jewish students to be pushed out of universities would be a significant loss and cautioned against the possibility of universities becoming “Jew-free.” He emphasized the importance of standing up against harassment and intimidation on campuses to ensure the safety and inclusion of all students.

The SSI founder identified a lack of leadership within academic institutions as a major challenge in addressing antisemitism on campuses. He criticized the response of Columbia University’s president to anti-Israel protests, noting that police intervention did not effectively address the issue. Sinelnikov highlighted the impact on students who pay high tuition fees, as their education is disrupted due to ongoing protests. He emphasized the need for universities to take a stronger stance against harassment, intimidation, and calls for violence directed at Jewish students, calling for more proactive measures to ensure campus safety.

Sinelnikov emphasized the urgency of addressing antisemitism on college campuses before it escalates further, warning of the dangers of allowing history to repeat itself. He underscored the importance of preventing universities from becoming hostile environments for Jewish students and the broader campus community. Sinelnikov called for stronger leadership from academic institutions in addressing hate speech and violence on campus, highlighting the need for decisive action to protect students and uphold the values of inclusion and tolerance. He urged people to be vigilant in recognizing and challenging antisemitism in all its forms, emphasizing the need for collective action to combat hatred and discrimination in higher education settings.
