Hundreds of NYU students gathered in support of Palestinians at an encampment near the Stern School of Business, which was disbanded by police resulting in several arrests. Following this, protesters relocated to Greenwich Village and engaged in peaceful marches in Lower Manhattan. The demonstrators, including students and some faculty members, were advocating for the acknowledgment of the ongoing genocide in Palestine and the safety of Palestinian students at NYU. Pro-Palestinian organizations also participated in the rally and voiced their demands for university support.

The protesters expressed the need for their demands to be met, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the genocide in Palestine and ensuring the safety and support of Palestinian students. Despite interventions by authorities, the demonstrators remained committed to advocating for justice and raising awareness about the Palestinian cause. The presence of various pro-Palestinian organizations at the rally indicated a united front in seeking recognition and support from the university and the broader community.

NYU officials cited disruptive and disorderly behavior as reasons for intervening in the protest, emphasizing the importance of maintaining safety and security on campus. The attempts to disband the encampment and clear the plaza area were met with resistance from the protesters, who continued to advocate for their cause and demand action from the university. The rally highlighted the solidarity among students, faculty, and outside organizations in support of the Palestinian community and their struggle for recognition and justice.

Amidst the protest, a group standing with the flag of Israel was present across the street, offering a contrasting perspective on the issue. The individual representing the group expressed their support for Israel and emphasized the importance of standing on the “right side” of history. The presence of this counter-demonstration highlighted the polarizing nature of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the differing opinions within the NYU community. Overall, the rally brought attention to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and sparked conversations about the role of universities in addressing global humanitarian crises.
