The Baltimore Orioles won their 13th game of the season with a 9-7 victory over the Kansas City Royals, in which Craig Kimbrel earned his 422nd career save, tying him for seventh on the all-time MLB saves list with Billy Wagner. However, the victory was marred slightly by outfielder Colton Cowser’s actions with the milestone baseball. After making the final out, Cowser threw the ball behind him and into the Kauffman Stadium fountains, later explaining that he “yeeted it behind me” and acknowledging that it may have been an important ball for Kimbrel. However, Cowser and his teammate Cedric Mullins were able to retrieve the ball and return it to Kimbrel.

After the game, Cowser tried to find the ball among two other balls in the fountains, one of which was older and allowed for easy identification of the correct ball that should have gone to Kimbrel. A stadium worker eventually located the baseball and delivered it to the visitors’ clubhouse. Despite some razzing from Orioles teammates, Kimbrel was not upset by the incident and reassured Cowser not to worry about it too much. Kimbrel currently has five saves, a 1.00 ERA, and 14 strikeouts. He is now looking to surpass John Franco, who is sixth on the all-time saves list with 424 saves, and Kenley Jansen, who is fifth with 425 saves.

Mariano Rivera holds the record for most saves in MLB history with 652, followed by Trevor Hoffman with 601. Kimbrel’s 422 career saves have solidified his place among the all-time great closers in the game. Despite the slight mishap involving the milestone baseball, Kimbrel remains focused on continuing to add to his impressive saves total. He is currently on pace to climb further up the all-time saves list and cement his legacy as one of the top closers in baseball history.

Yankees fans booed struggling Aaron Judge after a game in which he struck out four times, prompting some to express understanding for their frustration. Kimbrel’s achievements, particularly in regard to his saves record, have been a standout feature of the MLB season. The Associated Press contributed to this report, providing further context and analysis of Kimbrel’s feat. Fans can follow the latest updates on Kimbrel’s progress and other MLB news through Fox News Digital’s sports coverage and the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter, keeping them informed about the latest developments in the world of baseball. Kimbrel’s stellar performance and climb up the all-time saves list serve as a testament to his skill and consistency as a top closer in the game.
