The Moon Under the Water, located in Leicester Square, London, has been identified as the most expensive Wetherspoons in the UK, with pint prices that are significantly higher than other branches of the chain across the country. Punters have been advised to avoid this branch if they are looking for an affordable night out, as prices for drinks such as Corona, San Miguel, and Leffe are much higher than average. Despite the steep prices, some customers still visit this branch, with the cheapest alcoholic drink available being Bud Light for £4.85. In contrast, the David Macbeth Moir pub in Musselburgh is known as one of the cheapest Wetherspoons, where a pint can be purchased for just £2.58.

While Wetherspoons is generally known for offering cheap meals and drinks, the Moon Under the Water in Leicester Square stands out for its high prices. A former staff member shared insights into the food served at Wetherspoons, noting that while some items like pizza and curries are decent, others like steaks may not be as appealing. The former employee mentioned that the food, including burgers, steaks, paninis, and pizzas, is made “from scratch”, with some items being deep-fried or microwaved. Despite this, the pub chain claims that items like fish are “battered fresh” daily, while breakfast items are usually cooked to order.

The prices of drinks at the Moon Under the Water were listed on the drinks menu, revealing the cost of popular beverages such as Tennent’s and Edinburgh Gin. While a single rhubarb and ginger Edinburgh Gin at this branch costs £7.78, the same drink at the County Hotel in Kent is priced at £2.35. A former employee also mentioned that staff at Wetherspoons receive a free meal when working more than seven hours, but noted that much of the food is pre-prepared, with items like the curries being delivered frozen and then heated in the microwave. The chain emphasizes that they strive to maintain consistent quality, with some items being cooked fresh to order.

Wetherspoons’ Leicester Square branch is known for offering pints at much higher prices compared to other pubs in the chain, and customers have been advised to explore other options for more affordable drinks and meals. Despite the steep prices, some patrons continue to visit this branch, with the cheapest drink available being Bud Light for £4.85. The Moon Under the Water is not the only expensive Wetherspoons branch, as locations like The Barrel Vault and Hamilton Hall also charge high prices for drinks like Corona. Despite the differences in prices, the chain aims to provide a variety of freshly prepared meals and beverages to cater to a range of customer preferences.

The former employee who shared insights into the food preparation process at Wetherspoons highlighted the methods used to create certain dishes, including pizzas that are made fresh to order and curries made to bespoke Wetherspoon recipes. While some food items are pre-cooked or microwaved to ensure prompt service during peak hours, the chain emphasizes that their breakfasts are usually cooked fresh to order. Customers visiting Wetherspoons can expect a mix of freshly prepared dishes and convenience items that are pre-cooked or microwaved, providing a range of options for diners. Despite the varying preparation methods, the chain maintains consistent quality across its menu offerings.
