A high school student in North Carolina was captured on video as he slapped his teacher multiple times during a profanity-laced classroom rant. The incident took place at Parkland High School in Winston-Salem and went viral on social media. The student, a minor, was seen assaulting the teacher, who appeared unfazed by the attack and remained seated in her chair, legs crossed, despite being hit multiple times.
The aggressive student continued to taunt the teacher, asking if she wanted him to hit her again before delivering another blow that knocked her glasses off her face. He continued to insult her, calling her names and questioning why she did not retaliate. The video also captured students in the background laughing and filming the assault on their phones. The school district quickly condemned the student’s behavior and emphasized that it would not be tolerated.
The juvenile justice system issued a secure custody order for the student and charged him with three misdemeanor offenses, including Assault on a Government Official, Communicating Threats, and Misdemeanor Assault. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s office also condemned the incident and emphasized the importance of respecting and supporting teachers. The principal of Parkland High School, Noel Keener, stated that the student would face disciplinary action in addition to criminal charges and reiterated that such behavior was not representative of the school’s expectations of its students.
Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neil began investigating the viral video for any criminal behavior and visited Parkland High School with Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough Jr. to speak with the teacher involved in the assault. O’Neil emphasized that the incident was not about race or politics but about supporting teachers and sending a clear message that such behavior would not be tolerated. The community and educational organizations expressed outrage over the incident and called for a collective effort to ensure the safety and well-being of educators and students.
The school district superintendent, Tricia McManus, emphasized the importance of supporting the teacher and providing the necessary resources to help her navigate the effects of the assault.
