Brett Adcock, the founder and CEO of robot maker Figure, is on a mission to revolutionize the robotics industry with humanoid robots that can perform a variety of tasks, from household chores to factory work. With over $750 million in funding and a collaboration with BMW, Adcock aims to make Figure one of the most important businesses in the world. The company’s ultimate goal is to create a future where every human has their own humanoid robot to replace human labor.

Despite its ambitious plans, Figure faces many challenges in developing its humanoid robots. During a recent visit to Figure’s offices, Forbes witnessed the difficulties the company faces, such as getting the robots to walk properly and learn new tasks. It could take several years before the technology is ready for commercialization, with the cost of production being a major hurdle to overcome.

The robotics industry is seeing a surge in interest in AI-powered humanoid robots that can perform a wide range of tasks. Companies like Tesla, Agility Robotics, and Apptronik are all working on developing humanoid robots for various applications. The advantage of humanoid robots lies in their ability to work alongside humans in environments designed for people, such as factories and warehouses.

Adcock’s journey to the robotics industry has been unconventional, starting with a business degree and a successful online jobs marketplace venture before moving into electric aviation with Archer Aviation. Despite his previous successes, Adcock’s tenure at Archer ended abruptly, leading him to launch Figure with a focus on humanoid robots. Adcock’s networking skills and strategic partnerships have helped Figure secure significant funding and collaborations with industry leaders like BMW and Microsoft.

With a team of experienced professionals from companies like Boston Dynamics, Google DeepMind, and Tesla, Figure is making progress in developing its humanoid robots. Despite the challenges ahead, Adcock remains optimistic about the future of Figure and the potential impact its robots could have on various industries. The company’s recent funding rounds and partnerships have positioned it as a key player in the rapidly evolving robotics industry.

While success is not guaranteed in the competitive world of robotics, Figure’s innovative approach and commitment to developing humanoid robots could pave the way for a new era of automation and artificial intelligence. With a focus on addressing real-world challenges and improving human-machine interaction, Figure is poised to make a significant impact on the future of robotics and automation.
