NYC’s newest restaurant, Cafe Carmellini, seamlessly combines the elegance of the Gilded Age with the energy of the 1980s.

Cafe Carmellini is a new and popular restaurant in the city that has been described as delightful and crowd-pleasing. The atmosphere of the restaurant is reminiscent of a joyful New York before the challenges of Covid-19 and other societal issues. Drawing inspiration from the 19th Century Gilded Age and Wall Street’s junk-bond era, the restaurant offers a vibrant ambiance without the excess of those times. The brasserie is a favorite spot for couples, families, and friends, offering an Italian- and French-influenced menu that is both pricey and accessible.

The menu at Cafe Carmellini features a variety of dishes such as veal tongue castelluccio and shrimp colonnata. The veal tongue is a classic Umbrian dish that is cured and poached to create a flavorful and tender meat. The shrimp colonnata is a unique dish created by the chef and named after his family’s hometown in Tuscany. There are also pastas like “duck duck tortellini” and the popular black bass forestiere, highlighting Carmellini’s French-trained culinary skills.

The restaurant’s design by the Martin Brudnizki Design Studio creates a spacious and elegant atmosphere with deep blue shades and white tablecloths. The seating arrangement allows for private conversations while still maintaining a lively atmosphere. The clientele is diverse, with patrons in both high-end designer clothing and more casual attire. While some members of the staff are still learning the finer points of fine dining service, their warmth and friendliness make up for any shortcomings.

Carmellini, along with partners Pickard and Ostrom, is known for other successful restaurants in the city. However, Cafe Carmellini represents a return to fine dining and a desire to make a significant impact with a signature restaurant. The restaurant’s location in a historic building on Fifth Avenue adds to its charm, with the owner reaching out to Carmellini to create a high-touch dining experience. This decision has proven to be a success, with the restaurant gaining popularity and praise from patrons.

Customers have praised Cafe Carmellini for its excellent service and delicious food, making it a popular choice for celebrations and special occasions.
