Pete Alonso hits two home runs in a stellar performance to reverse his luck

The Mets found themselves trailing 11-4 entering the bottom of the sixth inning in a game against the Royals. Although they did not complete a comeback, they managed to score runs that forced the Royals to bring in their closer, James McArthur. This strategic move may have an impact on the Royals’ bullpen usage in the upcoming games, providing a small victory within the loss for the Mets.

Despite the 11-7 loss, the Mets showed resilience in battling back and putting runs on the board. Pete Alonso, who had started the season slowly, caught fire with a pair of solo home runs and an RBI single in the game. Alonso’s recent performance has been a significant factor in the team’s improved offensive output, contributing to four straight multi-hit games and raising his OPS to .963.

In addition to Alonso’s standout performance, other Mets players also made valuable contributions to the game. Starling Marte had three hits, including a home run, and DJ Stewart added an RBI double. The collective effort from the offense, while not resulting in a win, showcased the team’s ability to compete and come together to make an impact on the game.

Looking ahead, the Mets are optimistic that their offensive efforts in the game will carry over to the next day. Despite the loss, the team remains confident in its ability to produce runs consistently and believes that they have a well-rounded offense that can compete with any team in the league. The Mets are focused on building momentum and securing a series win in the upcoming games.

On the injury front, Kodai Senga is working on building up his arm strength as he rehabs a shoulder strain. Senga is expected to return to the mound soon, but he remains on the injured list until May 27. In addition, Sean Reid-Foley is set to begin a rehab assignment with High-A Brooklyn after dealing with a right shoulder impingement. The Mets are carefully managing their injured players’ recovery to ensure they return to full health and performance.

In terms of lineup decisions, the Mets opted to stack their lineup with left-handed batters against right-handed pitcher Alec Marsh. This move allowed key players like Brandon Nimmo, Jeff McNeil, and Joey Wendle to contribute offensively. Francisco Alvarez was given a day off after starting two straight days at catcher, with the team planning to rotate players to manage fatigue and maximize performance. Overall, the Mets are strategically managing their roster and lineup to optimize their chances of success in the upcoming games.
