Sanchez winks at Teresa Ribera as a possible candidate for the European elections: “It will be what she sets out to do”

Teresa Ribera, the Third Vice President of the Spanish government, and Pedro Sánchez, the President of Spain, have publicly expressed support for Ribera’s potential candidacy in the upcoming European elections. However, Sánchez has not confirmed if Ribera will be the chosen candidate. The decision regarding the head of the electoral list has already been made by the direction of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), but they plan to announce it before the Federal Committee meeting on April 27th. While some within the party believe Ribera is the frontrunner, others had considered the High Representative of the European Union, Josep Borrell. Borrell, however, has declined the possibility due to his current responsibilities in Brussels.

Ribera has expressed her willingness to take on the role, which would mean stepping down from her position in the Spanish government. She sees herself as an important asset for the government and the PSOE in the European elections, and has even mentioned the possibility of becoming a Commissioner in the next European Commission. Ribera believes in a better Spain with opportunities and emphasizes the importance of issues like water management. Despite her commitment to Spain, Ribera identifies as a true European and is open to the idea of serving in the European institutions. She recognizes the need for dedicated individuals in advancing the green agenda in Europe and is willing to take on the task if she is chosen.

Ribera has stressed the significance of the green agenda and the need for long-term commitment to address environmental challenges. She believes that the changes needed cannot be achieved within a single mandate and requires continuous efforts. While she is prepared to take on a leadership role in the European elections, Ribera is also open to supporting whoever is selected for the position. Her achievements as Minister of Ecological Transition, such as implementing the Iberian exception to lower electricity prices, demonstrate her capacity to handle complex issues effectively. Ribera’s dedication to promoting sustainability and driving environmental policy forward has earned her recognition both nationally and internationally.

Sánchez has commended Ribera for her capabilities and accomplishments in the government, describing her as a reference point at a national and international level. The PSOE is expected to officially announce their candidate for the European elections soon, with Ribera being a top contender. Her leadership in promoting green policies and addressing environmental concerns has made her a strong candidate for the role. Despite the uncertainty surrounding her candidacy, Ribera remains focused on her commitment to creating a better future for Spain and is open to serving in whatever capacity is deemed necessary. Her track record and dedication to driving positive change make her a valuable asset to the party and the government.
