The Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre (DLC) is now accepting registrations for new kindergarten to Grade 12 and adult students for the upcoming school year. Both full- and part-time students can begin choosing courses. Education Minister Jeremy Cockrill expressed excitement about the continued growth in online course enrollment, with more than 2,500 full-time K-12 students and 4,300 part-time grades 10-12 students currently participating. Additionally, there are 190 adult learners using the DLC to upgrade or complete high school courses for various reasons such as earning a diploma or qualifying for post-secondary education or the workforce.

The creation of Sask DLC was intended to provide students with more opportunities and choices in their learning, and it has been successful in doing so. The province is pleased to see students across Saskatchewan benefitting from online courses. Chief operating officer Darren Gasper emphasized the high-quality education that online students can access, whether they are studying full-time or supplementing their in-class learning with online courses. There has been a notable increase in student interest in online learning over the past year, and the Sask DLC aims to continue building on this success.

Registration for online summer school classes will open in May, with classes running from July 2 to August 9 at a cost of $500 per course. This provides an additional opportunity for students to continue their education during the summer months. The DLC is focused on flexibility and accessibility, allowing students to fit their education into their schedules. This has been particularly beneficial for students who may not thrive in a traditional classroom setting or who require a more flexible learning environment to accommodate other commitments.

The province has seen significant growth in the number of students taking online courses since the establishment of Sask DLC, with approximately 1,300 more students enrolled since November 30, 2023. This growth is expected to continue as registration for the upcoming school year is now open. The success of online learning in Saskatchewan demonstrates the value of providing students with diverse learning options that cater to their individual preferences and needs. The DLC has become a valuable resource for students seeking flexible, high-quality education that can be tailored to their unique circumstances.

Overall, the Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre has become an important platform for education in the province, offering a wide range of courses for kindergarten to Grade 12 and adult learners. The increase in online course enrollment reflects a growing interest in and appreciation for online learning options. With the opening of registration for the upcoming school year, the DLC is positioned to continue expanding its reach and impact, providing students with the opportunity to access quality education in a flexible online format. The success of the DLC serves as a testament to the benefits of virtual learning and the importance of supporting diverse educational pathways for students.
