Vice President Kamala Harris will be traveling to Arizona to mobilize voters in light of the recent restrictive abortion ruling in the state. The Arizona Supreme Court ruling revived a 160-year-old law that severely restricts abortions, making it a central issue in the upcoming November election. Harris has been actively campaigning for reproductive rights across the country since January, emphasizing the importance of the election’s impact on abortion rights. This visit to Arizona follows her previous visits to other states, including a historic visit to a Planned Parenthood clinic in Minnesota.

At her campaign event in Arizona, Harris is expected to highlight the court ruling as a significant blow to women’s rights, blaming former President Donald Trump for the current situation. Democrats see abortion as a key political issue that could drive moderate voters, especially women, to turn out and vote against Trump and Republicans. Both President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris have focused on Trump’s role in crafting the conservative supermajority on the US Supreme Court that led to the overturning of Roe v. Wade in the 2022 Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision.

The Biden campaign has launched a seven-figure ad buy in response to the Arizona Supreme Court ruling, aiming to galvanize momentum in the battleground state. President Biden squarely places the blame on Trump for the current state of reproductive freedom in Arizona. The issue of abortion has been a top priority for the Harris team, with the vice president being seen as uniquely positioned to lead on this issue. A significant number of registered voters believe that this year’s elections will have a major impact on access to abortion, with some voters citing it as their most important issue driving their vote.

Abortion has been a mobilizing issue for moderate and liberal voters in past elections, leading to Democratic victories in various races. Democrats believe that the recent court ruling in Arizona serves as a powerful data point to counter Republican arguments, portraying them as out of touch with the majority of voters. The Biden campaign is focused on tying Trump directly to policies that restrict reproductive rights, highlighting his role in shaping the current landscape. Despite some conflicting statements from Trump, both he and GOP Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake have come out against the Arizona Supreme Court ruling.

Overall, the issue of abortion is shaping up to be a crucial factor in the upcoming November election, with both parties mobilizing their bases around it. Democrats are positioning themselves as defenders of reproductive rights, while Republicans are attempting to navigate a delicate balance on this contentious issue. Harris’s visit to Arizona and the Biden campaign’s ad buys signal a strong focus on this issue as a key driver of voter turnout and support in the battleground state and beyond.
