The Olive Garden, a popular American-Italian chain restaurant with nearly 900 locations, is known for its affordable and carb-loaded menu. However, nutrition experts suggest that there are healthier options available for those trying to eat right. Dietitian Toby Amidor analyzed the menu to determine the best pasta dishes for those looking to make healthier choices. While many of the pasta dishes at Olive Garden are high in calories, saturated fat, and sodium, Amidor identified spaghetti marinara and shrimp scampi as the healthiest options due to their lower calorie and fat content.

In contrast, dishes like Chicken Tortellini Alfredo, with 1,890 calories and 76 grams of saturated fat, were deemed to be the worst options on the menu. Pairing healthier pasta dishes with a side salad or a bowl of minestrone soup can help patrons leave the restaurant feeling full and satisfied. The salad is considered a decent option due to its low saturated fat content and high vegetable content, but the herb-grilled salmon entree was identified as the healthiest choice on the menu, offering omega-3 fatty acids that are beneficial for heart health and overall well-being.

The portion sizes at the Olive Garden are often large, leading to inflated calorie counts, but choosing healthier options and balancing the meal with vegetables or protein can help mitigate the impact of these oversized servings. One of the major factors contributing to the calorie content of pasta dishes at Olive Garden is the amount of cream, cheese, and sodium used in the preparation. By being mindful of these ingredients and opting for simpler dishes like spaghetti marinara, diners can enjoy a satisfying meal without overindulging in unhealthy toppings.

While dishes like creamy alfredo and chocolate lasagna may be tempting, diners can make smarter choices by focusing on lower-calorie options like the spaghetti marinara and shrimp scampi. By adding protein or vegetables to their meal, patrons can create a more balanced plate that satisfies their nutritional needs. Choosing healthier entrees like herb-grilled salmon can provide essential nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids that support overall health and well-being, making it a standout choice among the restaurant’s menu offerings.

In conclusion, while indulging in endless breadsticks and creamy pasta dishes at the Olive Garden may not be the healthiest option, there are ways to make more mindful choices when dining out. By selecting lighter options like spaghetti marinara and shrimp scampi, and balancing the meal with vegetables or protein, diners can enjoy a satisfying and nutritious meal at this popular chain restaurant. With a little strategic planning and awareness of portion sizes and ingredients, it is possible to dine out without sacrificing health goals.
