Three teams in discussions with Seahawks about potential trade-up situations

The Seattle Seahawks are in a good position to trade down in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft. Currently holding the No. 16 overall pick, they may not have the opportunity to select an elite quarterback prospect or a top defensive player at that spot. While taking the best available lineman is an option, it may be more beneficial for the team to move down and acquire additional draft capital. Three teams – the Eagles, Packers, and Commanders – are reportedly discussing trade-up scenarios with the Seahawks, providing them with multiple options.

One potential exception to this strategy is Washington quarterback Michael Penix, who has performed well under offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb in recent seasons. If Penix is still available at No. 16, the Seahawks may need to reconsider their approach and give serious consideration to selecting him. However, if Penix is off the board, trading down is likely the best course of action for Seattle to take. This would allow them to add more draft picks and potentially address multiple areas of need on the roster.

It is important for the Seahawks to carefully weigh their options and consider all potential scenarios leading up to the draft. Keeping track of their top-30 visits, as well as monitoring trade discussions with other teams, will help the organization make an informed decision when it comes to their first-round pick. By staying informed and remaining flexible, the Seahawks can position themselves to make the most advantageous move on draft day.

Prioritizing flexibility and maximizing value in the draft will be crucial for the Seahawks as they navigate their options in the first round. While selecting the best available player can be tempting, the team must also consider the overall strength of the draft class and where they can find the most value. By engaging in trade discussions with interested teams like the Eagles, Packers, and Commanders, the Seahawks can explore the possibility of moving down and accumulating additional assets.

In the ever-evolving landscape of the NFL draft, the Seahawks must be prepared to adapt their strategy based on the circumstances that unfold on draft day. Whether they choose to select a player like Michael Penix at No. 16 or opt to trade down and acquire more draft picks, Seattle will need to stay agile and make decisions that position them for success in the long term. By staying informed and considering all possibilities, the Seahawks can set themselves up for a successful draft and strengthen their roster for the future.
