GOP Senate candidate with Trump’s support targets flipping Democrat-controlled seat in key swing state

Mike Rogers, a former FBI special agent and House Intelligence Committee chair, is running for the Republican Senate nomination in Michigan. He is concerned about crime, border security, and the economy. Rogers is the front-runner in the GOP primary and is expected to face off against Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin in the general election. The seat is one of several that Republicans are targeting in their efforts to regain control of the Senate.

During a recent visit to Michigan, former President Donald Trump joined Rogers and other Republican leaders to discuss crime and the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border. Rogers blames a weak border for contributing to crime in his state, with recent incidents of violence tied to illegal immigrants. Local law enforcement leaders endorsed Trump, emphasizing the need for policy changes to protect communities from crime.

Rogers briefly considered a run for the Republican presidential nomination, but ultimately decided against it. He believes that Trump is the right person to address the country’s challenges. Despite past disagreements with Trump, Rogers now supports the former president and his policies. He sees Trump as vital to the GOP’s chances of winning in November.

Rogers’ chances of winning the GOP nomination improved after former Detroit Police Chief James Craig dropped out of the race and endorsed him. The Republican Senate field remains crowded, with other contenders including vocal Trump critics. Rogers is aware of the challenges ahead and is not taking anything for granted. He is focused on uniting the Republican Party and building the infrastructure needed to defeat Democrats in the general election.

On the issue of abortion, Rogers says that he has always supported life but respects Michigan’s decision to protect reproductive rights in the state constitution. He does not plan to push for federal abortion restrictions, despite his previous vote in Congress. Critics have raised concerns about Rogers’ ties to Chinese businesses and his decision to move to Florida. However, Rogers remains focused on his campaign and on winning in November.
