Two couples from Gaza, Amal Al-Taweel and her husband, Mustafa, along with Rola Saqer and her husband, Mohammed Zaqout, welcomed their long-awaited babies, Ali and Masa, amidst the start of the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Ali, diagnosed with gastroenteritis, showed signs of malnutrition, with his condition worsening as his parents struggled to provide for him in the midst of the crisis.
Both families eventually decided to return to central Gaza in search of medical care and a more stable living situation. However, the healthcare system in Gaza had been severely impacted by the war, with most hospitals functioning at limited capacity or completely shut down. As the families grappled with the uncertainty of their children’s future, they faced the harsh reality that their hopes for a better life for Ali and Masa were fading.
Saqer, reflecting on the devastation of their homes and uncertain future, expressed the fear that even if they were able to return to their original homes, they would find nothing but rubble. The families resigned themselves to the likelihood of enduring a difficult life in tents, unable to provide the comfortable and stable existence they had once envisioned for their children. As the conflict continued to ravage Gaza, the families remained determined to find a way to give their babies the best possible life, despite the challenges they faced.
