Doug McIntyre, a soccer journalist for FOX Sports, highlights LAFC’s dominance in Los Angeles as they defeated crosstown rival LA Galaxy with a 2-1 win in the first “El Tráfico” of the season. Timothy Tillman scored early for LAFC, but the Galaxy leveled the score through Julián Aude before Denis Bouanga restored the lead with a penalty kick. This victory handed the previously unbeaten Galaxy their first loss of the 2024 season.

The play of the game saw Aude’s persistence pay off as he scored for the Galaxy after his initial shot hit the post and his second effort was blocked. The turning point came with the controversial penalty decision that awarded LAFC the winning goal. Despite VAR intervention, the penalty stood and Bouanga converted it past the Galaxy keeper, John McCarthy. The match was an exciting spectacle with a total of 38 shots between the two teams.

Next, LAFC will face the Portland Timbers, known for being a challenging away trip in MLS, before returning home to play against the New York Red Bulls on April 20. On the other hand, the Galaxy will travel to face the Vancouver Whitecaps and then host the San Jose Earthquakes in the first “California Clásico” of 2024 on April 21.
