Sydney is facing intense weather conditions as Warragamba Dam, which supplies the city’s drinking water, has reached full capacity and started to spill. Evacuation alerts have been issued for residents living in various suburbs including Pitt Town Bottoms, Chipping Norton, Georges Hall, Sackville, and Cumberland Reach. The NSW State Emergency Service has been involved in numerous flood rescues and received over 4000 calls in the last 24 hours. Parts of Sydney, Port Macquarie, and Taree experienced heavy rainfall on Friday causing transportation delays, power outages, and evacuation alerts.

As Warragamba Dam reached capacity at 5.45am, more than a month’s worth of rain fell over various areas in New South Wales. The Bureau of Meteorology has warned of the possibility of severe thunderstorms redeveloping on Saturday afternoon with up to 150mm of rainfall possible within a six-hour period. Rivers such as the Hawkesbury, Nepean, Georges, Lower Hunter, Myall, Macquarie, and Woronora are on flood watch with further river level rises and moderate to major flooding expected along the Hawkesbury and Nepean Rivers from Saturday morning.

Evacuation alerts have been issued for low-lying areas in Sydney as residents are told to prepare to leave due to the intense weather conditions and the spillage of Warragamba Dam. The NSW State Emergency Service has been busy with flood rescues and a high volume of calls for assistance. The heavy rainfall on Friday caused chaos in Sydney, Port Macquarie, and Taree with trains delayed, power cuts, and the issuance of evacuation alerts.

The continuous rainfall has resulted in Warragamba Dam beginning to spill over, prompting concerns about potential flooding in various areas. The Bureau of Meteorology has cautioned about the possibility of isolated severe thunderstorms redeveloping on Saturday afternoon, bringing even more rain to the already soaked regions. Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to stay informed and be prepared to evacuate if necessary as the flood risk remains high in the coming days.

The intense weather conditions in Sydney and surrounding areas have led to a state of emergency with evacuation alerts issued for several suburbs. The NSW State Emergency Service has conducted numerous flood rescues and received a significant number of calls for help. With the spillage of Warragamba Dam and the possibility of further heavy rainfall, residents are urged to take precautions and evacuate if necessary to ensure their safety.

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned of potential moderate to major flooding along the Hawkesbury and Nepean Rivers due to the forecasted rainfall. With up to 150mm of rain expected in certain areas, the risk of further river level rises and flooding remains high. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and advising residents to stay alert and prepared for any potential evacuation orders as the intense weather conditions persist in the region.
