Teddy Swims and his girlfriend Raiche Wright are gearing up to welcome their first child.
Ahead of the baby’s arrival, Swims (real name Jaten Collin Dimsdale) revealed during a Thursday, March 20 appearance on the “Kyle & Jackie Show” that the pair are investing in the relationship by going to couple’s therapy.
“I’ve done therapy now, man. Me and my girl, you know, as we’re about to have a baby, we started doing therapy together too. So, you know, getting prepared for the best communication and stuff,” Swims, 32, told hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie “O” Henderson.
He continued: “I’m in therapy. I’ve tried therapy. It’s been great. Solo therapy and couple’s therapy. We’re doing the whole nine dogs.”
Swims revealed it was Wright, 29, who first suggested the idea of going to therapy.
“The thing is that, just like a good strong woman that she is, she kind of brought up the idea of doing couples therapy when she first got pregnant,” Swims explained. “She was like, ‘We should just do this couple’s therapy together to make sure our communication is good.’ Not that there’s issues, but to get better.”
Swims then joked: “And then the next thing you know, like a few weeks later, I find myself in solo therapy with a therapist, and I was like, she tricked me into therapy.”
The “Lose Control” singer and Wright first announced the news they were expecting a baby via an Instagram post shared in January.
“We can’t wait to meet you baby,” Wright wrote alongside a photo of the couple at the beach in which her baby bump featured prominently.
During the “Kyle & Jackie O” interview, Swims shared how he and Wright are attempting to get their ducks in a row before the baby’s expected arrival on June 15 this year.
“All of next month in April I get off, because my baby’s due in June. So, we’re buying a house currently in Nashville and I get time to kind of set up shop and set up home and, you know, build the home,” he said. “And I’ve got all of June off. I pushed a bunch of stuff back so I can be there for my baby to be born for most of June and July.”
Swims also shared why he didn’t want his child to grow up in Los Angeles. Instead, the couple intend to raise their family in Nashville.
“I’m from Georgia, so [Nashville] is a four-hour drive from Georgia. And I can also still do work out there, too. And I can buy land. And also, there was a fear of having my son being grown up in LA that I just, I don’t know, it sounds like if my kid was like a private school LA kid, he might be a turd,” Swims said.
He added, “You know, I want to be at least like four hours from my parents. My parents can drive up on the weekends, [and they’re] going to stay with us. And he gets raised with his Southern accent and says, ‘Yea ma’am, no sir,’ and all that stuff.”
