rewrite this title Actress Sharon Horgan details ‘really awkward’ sex scene with Michael Sheen in new series ‘Best Interests’

Sharon Horgan said her rail car romp with Michael Sheen in “Best Interests” was excruciating to film.

“So awkward,” she exclaimed during an exclusive interview with Page Six.

The Irish writer and performer, 54, has done quite a few sex scenes in the past — much to the chagrin of her daughters, who “take the p–s out of me because they’re like, ‘Why do you have to write yourself having a sex scene in the first five minutes of that show?’” — but this amorous coupling set in a cramped train car bathroom was particularly embarrassing, she shared.

Horgan “didn’t know why it was really awkward,” but she shared that when filming sex scenes, sometimes “you just feel like everyone’s a peeping Tom and you want to say, ‘F–k off, what are you doing? Get that camera out of here!’”

Despite all the awkwardness, the “Bad Sisters” star was happy with the end result because it captured a slice of real life.

In the compelling series, she and Sheen, 56, play a married couple fighting for their disabled daughter’s care.

Thirteen-year-old Marnie (Niamh Moriarty) has a rare form of muscular dystrophy and while in intensive care her doctor suggests that treatment should not be continued.

Marnie’s parents fight tooth and nail to have her treatment continued but are driven apart by conflicting attitudes.

It’s a heartbreaking tale and one that Horgan can relate to.

“My first daughter contracted meningitis,” she shared. “She got meningococcal septicemia, so we were very close to losing her, and she was only 14 months old.”

The “Catastrophe” alum admitted that initially, she wanted to get out of filming the series because she had just finished the end of the first season of “Bad Sisters” so she was a bit “jaded” and “exhausted.”

However, producers coaxed her back by explaining that they wanted to show that “a family can continue in the worst possible situations.”

It’s a theme that Horgan explored in “Bad Sisters.”

“We all go through terrible things,” she told Page Six last November. “But there’s always a moment where we crack up or someone says something terrible and it lightens the mood.”

“Best Interests” is currently available to stream on Acorn TV.
