rewrite this title Exclusive | El Paso border barrier rushed by hundreds of migrants in violent riot now a ghost town under Trump

What a difference a year makes.

The section of the besieged southern border where hundreds of migrants rushed a barbed wire fence and assaulted Border Patrol agents in a violent melee is now a ghost town — as crossings plummet under President Trump, stark photos show.

The Post captured the moment the riot broke out at Gate 36 in El Paso, Texas, on March 21 last year, when the group tore through layers of razor wire and at least one migrant stomped on the knee of a soldier patrolling the area.

The video of the wild stampede became a flashpoint for the Biden administration and a major talking point of the Trump campaign.

The El Paso section of the border has long been a major entry point for illegal migrants trying to sneak into the US. On the day of the riot, more than 600 migrants waited at the border gate before the chaos broke out.

However, with the Trump admin ending the problematic catch-and-release policy at the border, along with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott erecting more razor wire and deploying additional cops to the area, no one dares to cross there like they used to.

Not a single migrant was waiting at the border gate when The Post visited Tuesday, stunning photos show.

Illegal crossings at the once-busy sector of the border have dropped from 2,500 at their daily peak two years ago to less than 100 a day.

Along the entire southern border, agents are catching an average of 285 illegal border crossers each day, Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks told CBS News Friday.

Border Patrol agents are now outnumbering migrants for the first time in years and turning away crossers rather than allowing them free rein in the country.

The Post observed six Border Patrol agents apprehend a single migrant just 15 miles down away in Sunland Park, New Mexico, who they were readying to kick back to Mexico.

“Right now, with everything working out towards our favor, now we have more agents on the line doing what they’re assigned to do and looking out for making those apprehensions instead of processing,” Border Patrol agent Claudio Herrera told The Post.
