A transgender teen who was allegedly planning a mass shooting on Valentine’s Day in Indiana had an “obsession” with Nikolas Cruz — the gunman who killed 17 people at his high school in Parkland, Florida, authorities say.
Trinity Shockley, 18, who was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and two terrorism-related charges for her alleged plan to shoot up Mooresville High School, also had a collage of mass shooters on her bedroom wall, according to a shocking affidavit obtained by CNN affiliate WISH.
In the affidavit, police detail the messages between Shockley and a person in an online chat room, where the teen allegedly discusses her plans to commit a mass murder with an AR-15 that she planned on purchasing.
“I have THIS staring at me” Shockley messaged, according to the affidavit, and attached a photo of a collage of Dylann Roof, a mass shooter and white supremacist who massacred nine people at a historically Black church in Charleston in 2015.
Other mass shooters on Shockley’s collage include Roof and Cruz, as well as Randy Stair, who killed three coworkers at a Pennsylvania supermarket.
Police found notebooks inside Shockley’s backpack with swastikas and the words “kill,” “bang,” and “I hate you all DIE DIE DIE,” according to the affidavit.
A guidance counselor at Shockley’s school met with her earlier this week, according to the affidavit, where she described her interest in mass murders.
Shockley, who was charged under the name Trinity but goes by Jamie, reportedly told her guidance counselor that she was struggling with the recent death of her mother from a drug overdose and had been bullied at school after being hit by a drunk driver.
The 18-year-old was previously the focus of a Mooresville community fundraiser after she was hit by a drunk driver on her way to school in 2022.
Shockley is the daughter of a 19-year US military veteran and was left with head injuries and numerous broken bones after the accident, according to a GoFundMe set up by her family at the time.
Mooresville police were tipped off about Shockley after someone called the Sandy Hook tip line Monday to say a friend had access to an AR-15 rifle, had just ordered a bulletproof vest, and admires Cruz – who carried out the deadly shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in 2018, according to officials.
Shockley had allegedly planned the shooting to coincide with the seventh anniversary of the Parkland.
The affidavit does not say whether or not the police found a gun with Shockley.
