Former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney was arrested on February 6 after allegedly strangling a woman during a dispute at a Georgia residence last month.
Toney, 26, is accused of putting his hands around a woman’s throat and squeezing “with enough force to cause her to be unable to breathe,” according to police documents obtained by TMZ.
The report also stated that the alleged assault left the woman with red marks on her neck and “petechial hemorrhaging in her eye.” Police say that Toney took the woman’s phone during the altercation to keep her from dialing 911.
Toney was charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of obstructing/harassing 911 calls. He was booked at a facility in Douglas County, Georgia and held on $25,000 bond for each count.

Us Weekly has reached out to Toney for comment.
The New York Giants selected Toney, a University of Florida alum, with their first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He played a season and a half with the Giants before the team traded him to Kansas City, where he was part of the Chiefs’ 2022 and 2023 Super Bowl-winning teams.
Toney owns the Super Bowl record for the longest-ever punt return, running a kick from the Philadelphia Eagles back for 65 yards in Super Bowl LVII. He did not suit up in any of the Chiefs’ playoff games in their run to their second consecutive championship.
He later made headlines in training camp with the Chiefs last summer when Kansas City defensive end George Karlaftis knocked him to the ground during a play in practice. Toney retaliated by throwing the football at Karlaftis.
Tight end and team leader Travis Kelce then approached Karlaftis and appeared to exchange words with him before shoving the defensive end. Practice resumed a few moments later without further incident.

“Those kinds of things happen every day,” Karlaftis recalled to Us Weekly exclusively in September 2024. “Just because of the guy Travis is, it kind of blew up a little bit. I was getting all of these text messages and notifications and whatnot.”
“Trav and I are boys, so it wasn’t a big deal,” he continued. “It was water under the bridge 10 minutes after it happened.”
While Karlaftis broke camp with the Chiefs, the team declined Toney’s team option before the 2024 season. After catching on with the Cleveland Browns, he was released on December 10. He appeared in only one game, just days before, and earned a 15-yard taunting penalty in a loss that eliminated the team from playoff contention.
