New Attorney General Pam Bondi on Wednesday initiated a review of the federal prosecution of Donald Trump as she introduced a series of directives aimed at overhauling a Justice Department that the president claims are biased against conservatives.Just hours after being sworn in at the White House, Bondi called for the formation of a “weaponization working group” to scrutinize the work of special counsel Jack Smith, who charged Trump in two criminal cases.According to the memo, the group will also examine the “pursuit of improper investigative tactics and unethical prosecutions” related to the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol, among other matters.Bondi, a former Florida attorney general and corporate lobbyist, was confirmed Tuesday as the U.S. Attorney General, placing a staunch Trump ally at the helm of the Justice Department (DOJ).
