They’ll have what he’s having.
“Billy Crystal-core” is dominating the internet as fashionistas aim to emulate the cozy style of the rom-com star in the 1989 Nora Ephron smash, “When Harry Met Sally.”
In that film, the funnyman, now aged 76, plays a political consultant who famously rocks a chunky white fisherman knit sweater.
The iconic item is now the hottest cold-weather garment, with trendsetters swooping to get their hands on sweaters in a similar style.
“Winter essentials: a ‘When Harry Met Sally’ knit jumper,” declared content creator Aoife O’Farrell in a recent viral TikTok video.
Given the versatility of a chunky white sweater, Crystal’s character has become a style icon for both men and women of all ages — including members of Gen Z, some of whom were born more than a decade after the rom-com’s release.
Meanwhile, TikTokker and musician Dominick Fulco announced that it’s “that time of year” when it’s finally cold enough to rock the Crystal couture.
“Grab your chunky knit and tennis shoes,” he wrote in the caption of his video, in which he crouched down in a cream sweater, light wash blue jeans and white sneakers, just like Crystal.
On Pinterest, searches for “cable knit sweater” have soared 110%, in part thanks to the rise of the “fisherman aesthetic,” which has sparked a frenzy for sweaters that fall in line with the nautical fad.
Luckily for Crystal fans, this means they’ll fit right in.
Creators have previously recreated looks from “When Harry Met Sally” over the years, which include but are not limited to his “chunky, oversized sweater,” according to TikTokker Krista Lavrusik, who described Crystal’s style as “effortless, comfortable, cool.”
“His outfits were slaying,” she said in a past video, in which she also encouraged viewers who want to mimic the style to shop vintage and secondhand, as well as sift through the shelves at L.L. Bean, Lands End and Eddie Bauer for a similar sweater.
But when it comes to hunting down the original, even Crystal doesn’t know exactly where it is.
Last year, he admitted that he donated the cable knit crewneck to the UCLA theater department along with “tons of clothes for costumes.”
“I have a feeling it’s there,” he told People, adding that he wishes he still had it.
“I’ve racked my brain as I’ve seen other people — you’ve seen them on social media wearing a sweater, doing the pose that is from that scene.”
Meanwhile, last week it was revealed that Crystal is reuniting with his “When Harry Met Sally” co-star Meg Ryan for a special project to be released later this year.
In a photo posted on the main grid of both of their Instagram accounts on Wednesday, the duo beam as they sit on a set reminiscent of one that plays a major role in “When Harry Met Sally.”
“It’s finally happening, we’re reuniting for something iconic,” the pair captioned the post. “Can’t wait to show you all soon.”
In the image, of course, Crystal was clad in another chunky white sweater — an obvious ode to the original garment.
