rewrite this title We couldn’t find the toilet in our Airbnb — we wet ourselves laughing when we found it

Did they skip the loo?

A woman and her partner booked a charming Airbnb in the English countryside to attend a wedding — but were completely stumped when it came time to locate a promised en suite bathroom.

When Rachel Wigmore, 24, and partner Jacob Wyles, 26, booked The Old Thatch in Hailsham, East Sussex, they had no reason to doubt the inclusion of a toilet — even if their hideaway was practically pre-historic.

They were set to stay there for two nights, but when they arrived, they couldn’t find the facilities.

“It was a lovely cottage, very cute and cosy. It looked completely normal,” Wigmore, a nursery room manager from London, said, according to the Daily Mail.

“We were searching the place for the en suite. When you find an Airbnb you have to have a little snoop about,” she said. “We couldn’t find the … loo anywhere.”

They were about to accept defeat when they opened a sliding wardrobe door and found the toilet inside the tight space — which was right next to the bed.

“We thought it was absolutely hilarious…. [we] wet ourselves laughing thinking it was the strangest thing ever,” Wigmore laughed.

The rental — which was marketed as a “beautiful, traditional, thatched roof cottage” — had two double bedrooms with an electric log burner in the living room and could house up to four people. Wigmore spent nearly $500 for a two-night stay.

The listing assured there was a toilet en suite for the double bedroom, but it failed to mention that it would be located in the mirrored wardrobe — within arm’s reach of the bed.

It wasn’t easy to use, either. Wigmore shared that the doors were sliding and didn’t close properly, so there was a little gap that could be peered into.

“There was a sink facing the toilet so I don’t know how they managed to squeeze that in there.”

Unfortunately, they had no choice but to use the poorly placed toilet.

“I could lie to you and say no one used it but myself and my partner stayed in that room and we had to,” Wigmore admitted.

“Unfortunately, I had … to use the toilet in the middle of the night — so we just got used to peeing so close to each other,” she shared.

But it wasn’t all bad — Wigmore said that “the hilarity of the situation made it quite fun to sit in there.”

While Wigmore and her partner didn’t say anything to the Airbnb hosts, they did leave a “light hearted” comment after their stay.

“t was something along the lines of ‘lovely cottage and great facilities, the wardrobe toilet was a bit of a shock though,’” Wigmore said.

“The [Airbnb] owners were lovely and even though they never mentioned it — it was a funny turn of events for the wedding weekend.”
