Calling all quitters: this one is for you.

On Jan. 10, we celebrate National Quitter’s Day.

Observed on the second Friday in January, Quitter’s Day recognizes those who begin the year with the best intentions and most robust resolutions, only to throw in the towel, pick up the bottle, and otherwise backslide into baseline in the first days of their fresh start.

In years past, nearly three-quarters of Americans have established a New Year’s Resolution — but only 48% have been successful.

In 2023, the average New Yorker quit their resolutions 89 days after making them, which gives every member of the zodiac plenty of time time to fail and falter through the first months of the new year.

While we’re all equally capable of rising to the occasion or falling flat on progress, one zodiac sign stands apart as the most likely to break their New Year’s resolutions this year.

Read on to learn more.

Ah, Cancer, sweet baby angels and patron saints of ennui.

As the zodiac sign governed by the moon and ruled by unruly emotions, sticking to resolutions is not a hallowed pursuit of the people of the crab.

Cardinal water, Cancers are more than capable of initiating change when they’re riding high — but less willing and able to follow through when they’re feeling down and out.

This year, commitments and resolutions will be especially difficult for Cancer suns and Cancer rising as Mars, our planet of action, gumption, getting it on and getting it done will be retrograding in their sign through the final week of February.

When Mars is direct, the energy of the planet naturally lends itself, like a steroid to the ass cheek, to ambition and actualization, making good on promises and effectively pushing agendas.

However, when the planet downshifts, so too does the actionable adrenaline and hot-blooded pulse of our life force, as our energy is directed internally rather than externally.

In essence, when the planet goes retrograde, we’re all regaled to the role of nonplayer characters.

Mars retrograde is always a collective downer; it takes the wind from the sails and the fire from the belly, and no one will be feeling those effects more acutely than our dear moon children.

My advice? Wait until the spring equinox on March 20 when Mars is erect and direct and the glorious, galvanizing fire of Aries season is upon us to set and stick to your new year, new you program.

Good luck out there.
