Quinn Ewers had a chance to put the rumors of his potential transfer from Texas to rest before the biggest game of the Longhorns’ season.
He instead remained mum.
On3 Sports reported last week that an unnamed school made a $6 million offer to Ewers to enter the transfer portal and play quarterback for its team.
When asked Wednesday about the speculation, the star QB sidestepped questions about his future, with Texas preparing to face Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl and a shot at the College Football Playoff championship game at stake.
“I mean, right now, I’m just, I’m just not worried about all that stuff,” Ewers told reporters on Wednesday, according to USA Today’s Dan Wolken. “I mean, people can say all they want to say, but, you know, I’m just focused on focus on Friday at this point in time.”
More interestingly, Wolken asked a follow-up question to see if the end result for Texas in either the semis or final would factor into a decision for the 2025 season.
“That’s a great question,” Ewers said before again saying his focus was on the Cotton Bowl.
Ewers, a redshirt junior, has already transferred once in his collegiate career — from Ohio State to Texas –before the 2022 season.
No matter what happens in the College Football Playoff, Ewers has one more year of college eligibility left, or he could declare for the 2025 NFL Draft — where he would be one of the top quarterback prospects available.
He’s had a stellar 2024 season, throwing for 3,189 yards and 29 touchdowns with 11 interceptions – including Texas’ two College Football Playoff wins.
Ewers missed two games with an oblique injury, where heir apparent Arch Manning took over under center.
The redshirt freshman Manning has already pledged his loyalty to Texas for next season.
He’s thrown for 939 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions in nine appearances for the Longhorns this season.
