Greece’s top score of 4.6 out of 5 stars landed them in the number one spot, with highlights including Fystiki Aeginas, Finiki Lakonias olive oil, and Santorini Fava beans. The country that invented democracy was deserving of this top culinary honor based on crowdsourcing data.
Italy came in second on the list with a score of 4.59, known for must-try dishes like parmesan cheese, gianduja, and Neapolitan Pizza. This iconic pizza style was also ranked second in TasteAtlas’ list of the top 100 dishes in the world. Rounding out the top five best cuisines were Mexican, Spanish, and Portuguese, with scores of 4.52, 4.5, and 4.5 respectively. American cuisine placed 13th on the list with a score of 4.42, with American lobster, Pacific smoked salmon, and South Texas-style BBQ being highlighted as some of the best dishes in the US.
Despite the rich diversity of Chinese cuisine, it only ranked 10th on the list, which may come as a surprise to many given the wealth of culinary options in Chinese gastronomy. The UK, on the other hand, ranked a disappointing 48th, falling behind Macedonian cuisine. Both American and British cuisines are known for iconic dishes and restaurants, such as NYC legends Russ & Daughters and Keens Steakhouse in the US. TasteAtlas highlighted the cream of the culinary crop for each country, with American lobster and South Texas-style BBQ and American smoked salmon among the top recommendations.
