Draw for Crew against Tigres, Revs fall to América in Concacaf Champions Cup

Liga MX is currently ahead of MLS in the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals after two first leg matches. The Columbus Crew settled for a 1-1 tie with Tigres, giving Tigres an advantage going into the second leg. Club América also had a dominant 4-0 victory over the Revolution, putting them in a strong position to advance to the next round. The remaining series between Inter Miami and CF Monterrey kicks off soon, with MLS looking to make a comeback against their Liga MX opponents.

The Columbus Crew struggled to find the winning goal against Tigres, despite being the home team. Tigres’ attacker André-Pierre Gignac scored early in the match, putting the Crew at a disadvantage. Although the Crew managed to equalize before halftime, they were unable to secure the win they needed. With key midfielder Aiden Morris suspended for the next game, the Crew will have to work hard to secure a victory in Mexico.

The New England Revolution had a disappointing night against Club América, conceding four goals and effectively ending their chances in the tournament. Despite this setback, the loss may allow them to focus on improving their performance in the MLS season. This defeat may push coach Caleb Porter to prioritize climbing up the Eastern Conference standings and aiming for a playoff spot, rather than focusing on their Concacaf Champions Cup run.

One of the major talking points from the first leg matches was the absence of star Colombian striker Cucho Hernández from the Columbus Crew’s lineup. Coach Wilfried Nancy chose not to include Cucho in the squad after a violation of team policy. This decision left the Crew at a disadvantage, raising questions about Cucho’s future with the team and whether he will be included in the crucial second leg match against Tigres. The absence of Cucho could impact the team’s performance in the upcoming game.

Doug McIntyre, a soccer writer for FOX Sports, provided insights on the first leg matches of the Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals. With years of experience covering soccer, McIntyre shared his thoughts on the performances of MLS and Liga MX teams in the tournament. His analysis of the games highlighted the challenges faced by MLS teams against their Mexican opponents and the strategies they need to employ to secure victories in the next leg.

As the tournament progresses, the competition between MLS and Liga MX teams intensifies. With Liga MX currently holding the upper hand after the first leg matches, MLS teams need to step up their game to advance to the next round. Both fans and analysts will be eagerly awaiting the outcomes of the remaining fixtures in the Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals to see which teams will emerge victorious and move closer to the title.
