A body found on March 28 on the shore of Dutliman Mahallesi was identified through DNA matching as one of the missing 3 crew members of a cargo ship that sank off the coast of Karacabey. The DNA matching conducted by the Forensic Medicine Institute determined that the body belonged to Hasan Mehmet Uyanık, the captain of the cargo ship “Batuhan A”.

The body of Uyanık was handed over to his family. Previously, the bodies of 3 crew members had been discovered. On February 14, a 69-meter long cargo ship named “Batuhan A” with a crew of 6 people and carrying 1250 tons of marble powder set sail from Marmara Island in Balıkesir to Roda Port in Gemlik, Bursa. However, due to bad weather conditions, the ship sank off the coast of Karacabey on February 15 at 06:20.

The captain Murat Altıntaş, second captain Hasan Mehmet Uyanık, engineer Murat Çalışkan, oiler Hüseyin Tutuk, cook Zeynep Kılınç, and trainee Ahmet Atav were reported missing. The body of Zeynep Kılınç, who worked as a cook on the ship, was recovered during a dive conducted by divers from the Navy Command on February 17. On February 20, the body of Hüseyin Tutuk was found, who had sent a video to his wife before the ship sank. The search in the wreckage of the ship was concluded on March 1.

The Coast Guard Command teams conducting search operations near Imralı Island had discovered the lifeless body of a person on the surface of the water on March 3. Following DNA matching conducted by the Forensic Medicine Institute, it was determined that the body belonged to Murat Altıntaş, the owner of the cargo ship “Batuhan A”. The tragic incident has left a deep impact on the families and loved ones of the crew members who lost their lives in the shipwreck.

The investigation into the sinking of the cargo ship continues, as authorities work to determine the exact cause of the tragic incident. The recovery of the bodies of the crew members provides some closure to the families, but the pain and grief of losing their loved ones in such a sudden and tragic accident remain. The community has come together to support the families affected by this devastating event and offer their condolences during this difficult time. The memories of the crew members will be honored and their legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.
