Kraft Heinz has announced the launch of an everything bagel-flavored version of their bestselling macaroni and cheese, reportedly in response to fan demand — but noodle nuts will have to work pretty hard for their dinner.
The out-there taste treat will be available at Walmart, but via online order only. Serious buyers can access a presale this Monday at 6 a.m. EST, while the rest of the approximately 15,000 boxes in the limited run will be made available on Black Friday at 1 a.m. EST.
The food giant, which charmed Spongebob fans by bringing back the cartoon mash-up mac last year, said in a release the forthcoming flavor won its “Fan Flavorites” competition in 2023.
“As a consumer-obsessed brand, our goal is to introduce new products that deliver on what our fans are craving,” said Sara Roashan, Associate Director of Innovation for Kraft Mac & Cheese.
“After receiving hundreds of requests for an Everything Bagel flavor, we’re thrilled to officially introduce it to the world.”
Early reviews of the quirky quick meal, seasoned with dehydrated garlic and onion and flecked with poppy seeds (no sesame seeds, sorry purists) have been positive.
“This might be the most flavorful box of Kraft Mac and Cheese I have ever had in the best way possible,” a taster at Mashed confessed.
“Let me tell you, it doesn’t disappoint,” a reviewer for The Kitchn proclaimed.
Separately, new data shows that Gen Z has a penchant for everything that is everything bagel flavor — including Trader Joe’s famed everything bagel-flavored seasoning.
Kraft noted, however, that a crossover of this kind has never been done.
“The versatile and savory seasoning enhances the cheese’s mellow, buttery taste, creating the perfect bite,” the release added.
“For the first time, Kraft is bringing the beloved breakfast pairing to the mac & cheese aisle.”
And the water is just starting to boil — the brand, which said it had already launched 50 new flavors since 2019, announced they are testing “more than 60” others for the new year.
