Amanda Leeann Porter, a Virginia woman, was arrested in California for impersonating a registered nurse and working in multiple hospitals. She was accused of overseeing the care of around 60 patients at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Los Angeles County and collecting two paychecks before being discovered by hospital staff. Porter was later fired and reported to authorities, leading to her arrest by the Burbank Police Department. She was charged with identity theft, false impersonation, and grand theft by the LA County District Attorney.
During their investigation, Burbank PD detectives uncovered that Porter had previously posed as a nurse at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Santa Clarita and had been arrested for a similar offense. Although she posted bail and was released, she was later charged for impersonating a nurse at another hospital. Detectives discovered that Porter had likely obtained employment at multiple hospitals in California by using false identities. They urged anyone with information on similar instances to contact law enforcement agencies.
Officials from the hospitals where Porter worked stated that she was in a probationary employment phase and had a qualified training nurse supervising her. However, it became apparent that her level of care was insufficient for a registered nurse. Both hospitals informed patients that Porter had cared for them while fraudulently working at their facilities. Detectives also revealed that Porter is on federal probation for a fraud violation in Virginia, where she previously pleaded guilty to impersonating a nurse and committing bank fraud.
In Virginia, Porter, also known as Amanda Porter-Eley, was found guilty of impersonating a nurse and committing bank fraud by using another person’s identity to work at a hospital in 2015. She worked as a nursing supervisor without the required licenses before she was caught in 2016. Porter-Eley continued using the stolen identity to commit fraud, causing significant financial losses to banks and retailers. She also pleaded guilty to opening bank accounts using stolen Social Security numbers and obtaining money through fraudulent means.
Porter-Eley obtained over $450,000 in cash, loans, goods, and services under the stolen nurse’s identity, resulting in multiple vehicles and a property being purchased. Additionally, she used other people’s Social Security numbers to open bank accounts and acquire nearly $50,000 in worthless checks. The Burbank Police Department did not confirm the connection between Amanda Leeann Porter and Amanda Porter-Eley as the investigation is ongoing. However, the evidence suggests that they may be the same person involved in multiple instances of identity theft and fraudulent activities.
