Trump speaks on journalists being shot, regrets leaving White House after election defeat in 2020

Former President Donald Trump delivered a profanity-laden and conspiracy-filled speech just days before the presidential election, where he cast doubt on the integrity of the vote and resurrected old grievances about his 2020 loss to Democrat Joe Biden. Trump intensified his verbal attacks on the Democratic Party and American media, even suggesting violence against reporters. His comments about being protected by ballistic glass and the need for reporters to also have protection sparked controversy and criticism.

Trump’s campaign later downplayed his comments about violence, claiming that he was looking out for the welfare of reporters. Trump also revived falsehoods about elections and insisted that he could only lose to Democrat Kamala Harris if the election was rigged, despite polls indicating a very close race. Some of his allies encouraged him to prematurely declare victory on election night, reminiscent of his actions in the 2020 election that led to the Capitol insurrection on January 6, 2021.

Despite running a relatively disciplined campaign, Trump’s speeches have taken a darker and more profane tone in recent weeks. He has made crude and sexist remarks, continued to spread false information about elections, and surrounded himself with speakers who use racist insults. Trump’s campaign has been defined by the use of ominous music and ad-libbed speeches, deviating from his planned remarks and focusing on conspiracy theories about fraud in the election.

Following his controversial speech in Pennsylvania, where he ad-libbed comments about polling and the close race, Trump acknowledged that he was going against the advice of his aides by focusing on election fraud. His subsequent appearances in North Carolina and Georgia saw him return to his usual script, mixing prepared remarks with personal anecdotes and attacks on political opponents. Despite criticism and scrutiny from both sides of the political spectrum, Trump remains confident about his chances of victory in the upcoming election.

Vice President Kamala Harris responded to Trump’s comments by reaffirming the integrity of U.S. elections and urging voters not to be discouraged by his rhetoric. Harris emphasized that the election system in 2020 was fair and that Trump’s attempts to discredit it were meant to distract from his loss. As Trump continues to campaign with a mix of conspiracy theories and personal attacks, the race for the presidency remains heated, with both candidates making their final appeals to voters before Election Day.

In the final days of the election, Trump’s campaign has become increasingly chaotic and divisive, with the former president making controversial statements and focusing on unfounded claims of election fraud. Despite facing criticism for his rhetoric and behavior, Trump remains confident in his chances of victory and continues to rally his supporters with promises of a successful and historic presidency. With Election Day approaching, both Trump and his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, are making their final appeals to voters, highlighting the stakes of the election and the importance of participating in the democratic process.
