In a game that was meaningless in the CFL standings, Edmonton Elks quarterback Tre Ford showcased his skills and led his team to a thrilling 31-30 overtime victory over the Toronto Argonauts. Ford, who is not under contract for next season, passed for 325 yards, rushed for 81 yards, and threw three touchdowns. The game-winning point came from a rare rouge off a punt by Jake Julien. Despite the victory, Ford expressed disappointment with the Elks’ overall season but remains optimistic about the team’s future.

The Elks overcame an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter, with Ford leading a 90-yard drive that ended with a touchdown pass to Zach Mathis. Eugene Lewis had a standout performance for the Elks, finishing with 88 receiving yards and becoming the first Elks player to score a touchdown in eight consecutive games. However, the Argonauts were able to tie the game with a field goal as time expired, sending the game to overtime. Deonta McMahon’s second touchdown for the Argos briefly put them in the lead, but the Elks secured the win in a thrilling finish.

Argonauts quarterback Nick Arbuckle threw for 378 yards after entering the game in the second quarter. However, the team chose to rest key players, including top running back Ka’Deem Carey, in preparation for their upcoming playoff game. Wide receiver Damonte Coxie suffered an injury in the game, adding to the concerns for the Argos. Despite the loss, the Argonauts finished the regular season with a 10-8 record and are focused on their upcoming playoff matchup against the Ottawa Redblacks.

Ford’s performance against the Argonauts highlighted his talent and potential as a Canadian quarterback in the CFL. He showcased his ability to make big plays and lead his team in critical moments. The Elks’ head coach, Jarious Jackson, expressed confidence in Ford and praised his leadership on the field. Despite the uncertainty of his future with the Elks, Ford’s performance in the game was a positive sign for his career in the league.

Both teams made strategic decisions regarding player rest and preparation for the playoffs during the game, with the Argonauts prioritizing the health and readiness of their key players. The Elks, on the other hand, seized the opportunity to showcase their talent and end the season on a high note. Ford’s strong performance against the Argonauts demonstrated the potential for growth and success for the Elks in future seasons. The game may have been inconsequential in the standings, but it provided valuable experience and moments of excitement for both teams and their fans.
