Livvy Dunne reminisces about the ‘full-circle moment’ witnessing her boyfriend Paul Skenes pitch against the Yankees.

Livvy Dunne, an LSU gymnast and native of Westwood, New Jersey, had the unique opportunity to witness her boyfriend, Paul Skenes, finish off an outstanding rookie season in MLB. Skenes, a right-handed pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates, was the first overall pick in the previous year’s draft. He excelled in the minors and was called up to the majors in May, eventually earning an All-Star nod and starting pitcher spot for the National League. Despite not being qualified for the ERA title due to pitching 133 innings instead of the required 162, Skenes finished with a remarkable 1.96 ERA, the lowest of pitchers with over 100 innings in the live-ball era. His performance on the field has already solidified him as an ace with a promising future.

In a special twist, Skenes’ final start of the season took place at Yankee Stadium, just 15 miles from Dunne’s hometown. The couple had the chance to be in New York together, with Dunne witnessing Skenes pitch against the Yankees, a surreal moment for both of them. Despite the rainy weather and Dunne’s upcoming flight back to school the next day, she described the experience as one of the most enjoyable times she’s ever had. Seeing Skenes excel on such a big stage in her own backyard was a full-circle moment for Dunne, who admitted to tearing up as she watched the game.

During Skenes’ last game of the season, he showcased his talent by striking out notable batters like Juan Soto and Aaron Judge in the first inning. He concluded with a devastating two-seamer that Jazz Chisholm Jr. couldn’t touch, retiring six batters in a row. While his limited 133 innings prevented him from qualifying for the ERA title and potentially winning the Cy Young Award, Skenes’ impressive statistics, including striking out 11.5 batters per nine innings and boasting a 0.95 WHIP, firmly establish him as a top-tier pitcher in the league. His potential for continued success in the future is evident.

As the MLB postseason progresses, Dunne may have a personal investment in the World Series, as the Yankees, Skenes’ team, are set to face the Los Angeles Dodgers. The matchup between these two iconic teams will undoubtedly be a thrilling one, and Dunne will likely be cheering on her boyfriend as he competes in the Fall Classic. With Skenes already making a mark in his rookie season and generating excitement for what’s to come, Dunne’s support adds another layer to their personal and professional journey together. Throughout all the ups and downs of the season, Dunne and Skenes have formed a bond that transcends their individual achievements.
