Activists brave danger to save animals in areas of Lebanon devastated by Israeli airstrikes

Animals Lebanon, an animal protection organization, has been working tirelessly to rescue animals affected by the Israeli strikes in Beirut and its southern suburbs. The organization has managed to rescue 190 animals from strike sites over the past three weeks, including cats and kittens. Their efforts are not only focused on caring for animals but also on helping humans who are calling them for help. The organization believes that caring for animals is caring for humans, and they give the rescued animals back to their owners or keep them at their shelter in Beirut.

Since Lebanon’s Hezbollah started attacking Israeli military posts last October, leading to Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon, animal rights activists have been going to the south to rescue pets. Many people in southern Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs left their pets behind when they were displaced due to the conflict. In response, animal rights activists have increased their missions to rescue animals, risking their own lives to bring them to safety. The animals rescued are predominantly cats and dogs, and the activists work around the clock to ensure their safety.

When Israel intensified its attacks on Lebanon on Sept. 23, displacing hundreds of thousands of people, many pets were left behind in the chaos. Animal rights activists have been going into homes in the southern suburbs to rescue these animals and bring them to safety. Despite facing danger themselves, the activists remain committed to rescuing as many animals as possible. In some cases, like the rescue of kittens in Beirut, animals are found trapped in the rubble and require immediate medical attention. The activists ensure that injured animals receive prompt medical treatment to save their lives.

After rescuing the kittens, two adult cats remained trapped and too scared to approach the rescuers. The activists brought metal traps baited with food in the hopes of capturing the scared cats. In cases where animals are injured, they are taken to a clinic for treatment, while those in good condition are either returned to their owners or kept at the shelter. Many of the rescued animals have suffered injuries, such as broken bones and trauma from the attacks. Animals Lebanon is dealing with unprecedented cases and remains dedicated to providing care for these animals in need. The organization’s work highlights the importance of animal welfare during times of crisis and emphasizes the connection between caring for animals and caring for humans.
